How to Beat the January Blues

The festive party’s over, the Christmas decorations are boxed, sealed and stashed within the darkness of the attic and your jeans are bursting at the seams. There’s no mistaking it is January – the month hits like a boulder.

Fortunately, our Stoke on Trent chiropractor has some great tips to super-charge your mood this New Year.

1: Make a Positive List

To kick-start your confidence and self-esteem, write down all of your recent achievements. Remind yourself of the things you did in December that made you proud. Getting things down on paper is a great way to remember that there is so much to be happy out!

2: Fill Up On Your Omega-3s

Eating an Omega-3-rich diet may reduce the symptoms of depression. Take a trip to your local fish counter and pick up some mackerel and salmon for a delicious mood-boosting treat.

3.Plan Big

The New Year’s the perfect time to make plans for all the things you want to achieve. Why not make a wish list and cut and stick pictures of everything you hope for? This is a fun way to remind yourself of all the exciting possibilities in life.

4:Light Up

Nothing sends us into the pits of the January Blues faster than a dark, drizzly morning.  The solution? Invest in an alarm clock that gradually wakes you up with increasing light. These incredible little gadgets reduce the production of sleep hormones and boost the “get up and go” ones. What an invention!

5: De-clutter – De-stress

Less mess means less stress. It’s as simple as that. You may not be in the mood for a major clear out after all the hustle-bustle of Christmas, but try tackling one thing at a time. Clear out that cupboard full of junk that’s been playing on your nerves for ages or tackle that kitchen drawer that stores nothing but old party invites and dead batteries. You’ll be surprised at how much a de-clutter will lift your mood.

6: Get Out!

Sure, Jack Frost may be doing his heat-sapping rounds, but grab that hat and scarf old Auntie Jean knitted you for Christmas and head outdoors.  Even a 20 minute stroll will do wonders for your mood.

So there you have them, our top tips on how to start the year on a happy note! Here’s to a fantastic 2017!
