If you’re among the lucky lot taking a holiday this Easter and you’re worried about your back playing up during your journey, you’re in the right place! Our Stoke on Trent chiropractor has some great tips to make sure you leave back pain behind as you set off on your jollies this Easter.
If you’re travelling by plane…
Make sure you stretch regularly during the flight. Slowly and gently stretching your arms, back and legs can make all the difference on a long-haul plane ride.
Plane seats are notoriously bad for aggravating back pain, so resist the temptation to recline backwards. Instead, keep your seat in a full upright position throughout the flight. This will reduce the risk of extra pressure on your spine during your journey.
If you’re travelling by train…
Long distance trains tend not to be as overcrowded as commuter trains, so try to sit in an aisle seat so that you can easily stand up and walk about for periods of the journey.
Also, try to avoid using a laptop or a tablet for long stints of your trip. If you end up hunching your neck and back, you’ll increase the pressure on your spine and put yourself at further risk of back pain.
If you’re travelling by bus…
Buses may not have much room to stretch or move around, but most of them do make frequent stops. When your bus makes a “pit stop” for food/ toilet breaks, make sure you get outside and walk around as much as possible. If there are no stops on your journey, roll your head from side to side and rotate your hips. This will help your circulation and keep you supple, which will go towards reducing your risk of back pain.
Going on holiday should be a time of fun and relaxation. The last thing you want is back and joint pain spoiling your trip away. But if you suffer with back pain and you don’t take the necessary safety advice on board, the journey to and from your destination could pose some serious challenges. After all; holidays come but once or twice a year, but back pain can last a lifetime.
