What’s Causing Pain in your Tailbone?

Tailbone pain (coccydynia) can cause pain of varying severity and can even affect everyday life. Although tailbone pain can have a variety of causes, two of the most common include local trauma and repetitive stress.

Here our Stoke on Trent chiropractor explains more:

Local trauma

One of the most common causes of tailbone pain is a direct injury to the coccyx. A fall, for example, can result in inflammation and bruising to the bone. In some cases, a fracture or dislocation can occur.

Repetitive stress

Any activity that places prolonged pressure on the tailbone, such as horse riding or sitting on hard surfaces, may cause coccyx pain. Tailbone pain as a result of these causes is not usually permanent, but can become chronic if left untreated.

Remember, the sooner your pain is diagnosed and treated, the sooner you can start to recover.
