10 Facts You May Not Know About Chiropractic

#1 – The Term Chiropractic Is A Combination Of Two Greek Words

The term chiropractic originates from combining two Greek words: cheir, meaning hand and praktos meaning done.

#2 – The First Chiropractic Adjustment

Daniel David Palmer, more commonly known as DD Palmer, is widely credited with delivering the first chiropractic adjustment in 1895. Palmer is regarded as the father of Chiropractic. In 1897, he established the first chiropractic school in Davenport, Iowa.

#3 – Chiropractors Receive Extensive Training

In the UK, chiropractors undergo a 4 or 5 year Master of Chiropractic degree at an accredited university. After qualifying, Continuing Professional Development plays an important part in a chiropractor’s ongoing education and training.

#4 – Chiropractic Is A Primary Healthcare Profession

Chiropractic is the third largest primary health care profession in the western world after medicine and dentistry.

Chiropractic specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, especially related to the spine.

#5 – Chiropractic Is Regulated

Chiropractors in the UK must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).  It is illegal for a chiropractor to practice without being registered with the GCC. The GCC is the body established by parliament to regulate and develop the chiropractic profession in the UK.
